With obesity levels soaring, many consumers are looking for healthier options to high-fat products, with more and more people choosing yoghurt.
Sales of yoghurt-based products have never been higher, and never more diverse. Whether you want to eat your yoghurt out of a pot, a squeezy tube, drink it, cook with it, or even clean your face with it, there’s something for everyone.
The origins of yoghurt go back further than you may think – there’s evidence as far back as 2,000BC.
In the early 1800′s, it was used by men clean their sheep and goats. It was also used by women to wash their bodies and hair.
Today, the supermarket aisles are full of yoghurt-based products and are popular with many different customers – children love the colourful, fruit yoghurts with packaging especially designed for them. Adults love the health benefits of a regular intake of yoghurt.
Making yoghurt at home is also becoming more popular. One of the top yoghurt making systems is EasiYo. Created in New Zealand by Len Light, to feed his family of 8 children, EasiYo products limited was launched in 1992 and currently exports to over 20 countries. Almost one in every two households in New Zealand has owned an EasiYo yoghurt making system!
The demand for yoghurt shows no signs of decreasing, with more and more consumers ditching high fat products for the yoghurt alternative. Sales of Greek-style yoghurt in particular are very high with this being used instead of cream in a wide variety of dishes. With a fat content in some low-fat Greek-style yoghurts as low as 2 per cent, it’s no wonder this is providing a popular choice with consumers.
