Back Acne in 5 Simple StepsDid you know that if you don’t try to get rid of your back acne you could possibly end up with permanent scars for life? Not only that having body acne can really affect your self confidence – especially if you have a new girlfriend or boyfriend or simply want to strip off at the beach with friends.

You CAN help yourself and I have outlined here 5 simple steps you can take to help clear the acne on your back.

1. Wash twice a day using an anti-bacterial soap

Wash your skin gently morning and evening and after any physical or sports activity make sure you shower off within 15 minutes to wash away perspiration. If you leave excessive sweat on your skin it can mix with oils, clog up your pores and make your back acne worse.

2. Exfoliate the skin on your back once or twice a week.

Exfoliating your skin will help scrub away dead skin cells that can make back acne worse. Try different types of exfoliators to see which suits you best – such as brushes, loofahs and exfoliating cream. Do not continue if it causes extreme irritation or worsening of the acne. If you use a cream scrub, try a sugar-based one rather than one with salt as this will be less harsh on your skin. Gradually build up the number of times you exfoliate and if your skin reacts badly stop or go back to just once a week and ALWAYS be gentle with your skin!

3. Use an acne cream or gel treatment on your back twice a day

A common ingredient is acne cream is benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to help get rid of back acne. Choose one or the other but don’t use both as they can cause a bad reaction if mixed together. You need to apply it twice a day to your back about ten minutes after washing, twice a day. Allow plenty of time for drying, as these medicated gels can sometimes damage and bleach clothing. Both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be drying, sp you may need to apply an alpha-hydroxy moisturizer afterward.

WARNING! Acne cream products that contain harsh ingredients like sulfur, alcohol, or benzoyl peroxide work by drying out the skin and temporarily clearing acne. This can cause the skin to oproduce even more oil to over-compensate the dryness – so you could end up with the acne coming back a few weeks later – possibly even worse than before!

I personally would NOT recommend using harsh products if you want long term results.

4. Make sure your clothing and bedding is clean

Dirty fabrics attract bacteria and can cause back acne so make sure that any fabrics that have contact with your skin are freshly laundered, including, towels, bedding, T-shirts and underwear.

5. Try to avoid too much greasy junk food

A bad diet can wreak havoc on your skin. Cut down on greasy, fatty foods where possible and try to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day to help clear out the toxins that can also cause bad skin.

Back acne will not go away over night but if you follow the tips above you should see results within a few weeks so.
